St. Jude Children's Research Hospital

Rarely do we have enough money to donate to charities. But I do want to share my thoughts here today.

Cate asked "If someone came to you and said "I have one million dollars I have to give away", what would you tell them?"

There are a couple charities that I follow on Twitter and Facebook. And in truth, I would most likely split up that money and distribute it among three charities. Alex's Lemonade Stand and The Breast Cancer Awareness Site are two wonderful charites to donate to.

However, I would distribute the bulk of my money to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

I'm a fan of St. Jude for a very specific reason. St. Jude will never turn a child away because of a family's inability to pay for the treatment.

Words are inadequate when it comes to stating how thankful I am for my healthy child. I am blessed. But there are people out there who are facing things that are unimaginable to me. And I also know that if I were ever in that situation I would never be able to afford that kind of help. Never.

St. Jude is able to offer their services to families very much in need, who cannot pay, because of the donations of other people.

"Give thanks for the healthy kids in your life, and give to those who are not."

Random Tuesday Thoughts!

Random! Random! Random! Happy Random Tuesday! Click the Random box below and join the fun over at Keely's blog!

1. Many Years ago when I was much much younger I was involved in a conversation regarding Holidays. Someone was complaining about "made up" holidays. I thought that I would get involved in that trend and make up my own holiday. I created "Zakamingkomo Day." Yes it's a ridiculous name but I was a kid! Zakamingkomo day is December 8 and the traditional food is Chocolate Chip Cookies. Also, you should wear green. So, Happy Zakamingkomo Day!!! Grab a cookie!

2. Live Free or Die Hard was on TV last night. Hubby turned it on and it was already mostly over. All I could think was how have I missed that movie? I'm going to have to Netflix it, I think. (I love Timothy Olyphant but No One can compare to Alan Rickman!)

3. Our Christmas Party is on the 20th. I'm getting excited. I want to start baking some cookies but I'm afraid someone (or everyone) around here would eat them all.

4. Made a Pinata for the Kiddo's to smack around at the party. I'm a little worried that the ribbon that I've attached isn't going to hold it up. I guess we'll find out.

5. I have absolutely no idea what's up with this guy but this is hilarious!

6. I grew up a Pepsi drinker. I married J and he converted me to Dr. Pepper. I decided to try and lose some weight, so I switched to Diet Coke. I think I may be a Diet Coke drinker for life. (And I used to HATE Diet soda. Actually, I still hate most kind of diet soda.)

UGH!!!!!!!

So people make me so cranky! I will never ever ever understand them! And just when it looks like they're changing, when it looks like they're improving that ridiculous attitude WHAM! They strike again!

If it's not yours, Don't Touch It! What kind of a person are you?! Thoughtless! Uncaring! Heartless! Start acting like a parent!

I realize this is a short post and it's all ranty and punchy but I just had to rant somwhere and it's my blog and I figured this was as good a place as any. Sorry folks.

Come back tomorrow for some Random Thoughts. They're bound to be more upbeat than this.

Finding Treasure on Saturn

I heard a story once about a woman who lived very long ago. She had  two sons. She was sad because both of her sons chose to head out to sea and become sailors. Everyday she was fearful for their safety. She would stare at the ocean and wonder why on earth her sons had chosen such a dangerous occupation.

One day she walked into her house and it hit her. Above their mantle was a giant painting of a Clipper ship being tossed in the frothy waves. Her boys had grown up seeing that painting. To them it represented adventure and the unknown. They were chasing after that adventure when they chose their career paths.

My sons bedroom is a collage of planets, stars and spaceships. Everywhere you look in his room is something that represents outer space.

Yesterday my three year old son came up to me and said "I'm going to take an airplane to Jupiter and Saturn and find treasure!"

I guess I have myself to blame for decorating his room that way. Looks like I have a future astronaut on my hands.

Christmas Money

I'm a very practical person.

My Mother-in-Law has asked me, in the past, what I want for Christmas. So I tell her, maybe, that I need some curtains, or a throw rug. She then tells me she doesn't want to know what I need she wants to know what I want. Well, that is what I want.

She wants me to tell her that I want a pair of black heels and super cute purse and maybe a bunch of clothes. Well, I already have black heels that I'm very happy with, I use a purse until it falls apart and then I get a new one. And I wear the clothes that I have because I feel it's a waste of money to buy more when the ones that I have work very well. (I do appreciate her desire to gift give though, of course.)

When you ask what I want for Christmas and I tell you what I need, that IS what I WANT. I want the things that I need.

It seems silly to me to spend money on stuff that is not necessary when maybe a bill needs to be paid (especially with our current circumstances) or we just really do Need laundry detergent.

I don't know, I guess I'm abnormal.
